The Sims 4, an unexpected companion in architectural modeling, is my most consistent creative outlet.
I find traditional architectural modeling tools to be static and lifeless, unable to accurately represent the spaces we may choose to experience and build community. Video game graphics, on the other hand, provide a comforting and familiar visual aesthetic.
——Sustainable Coffee Shop——
This lot was designed to be a farm-to-table coffee shop, housing honeybees and growing various vegetables and herbs behind the restaurant. Using a hydroponic farming system that recycles the cafe’s water, almost all of the ingredients used to make various pastries and sandwiches at the cafe are grown sustainably and with less water. Decreasing the carbon emissions of importing ingredients by growing produce locally, this coffee shop aims to bring sustainable, nutritious, and delicious food to the nearby community. The shop partners with local farmers to ensure the quality and proximity of each ingredient. Visitors can join Zoom calls, sip coffee, and nibble on a sandwich inside or outside, visiting the garden and honeybees as they wish. Live music events can be held on the patio space as the coffee shop transforms into a wine bar at night, re-imagining physical spaces as transformative based on the time of day and occasion.
